Diploma in Telecommunications

July 8th, 2011

PTT has developed a number of online courses that together provide an ideal study programme for those joining the telecommunications industry in a technical role. The Diploma in Telecommunications programme also forms a solid foundation for more advanced telecoms studies.

You can choose between one of three specialisations to match your intended role in the telecoms sector: 1. Data communications 2. Telephony and 3. Mobile communications.

This integrated study programme provides online access to seven courses, a study guide, access to a tutor, and assessment sessions which test understanding and provide feedback. You can study the courses at your own pace within the 12 month licence period.

Your personal online study area allows you to monitor your progress through the study programme, send messages to your tutor and access the study guide and courses.

At the end of your studies PTT will send you a signed Diploma in Telecommunications which summarises what you have learned and your level of achievement.

New LTE mobile courses

July 7th, 2011

The growth in the take up of Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile is accelerating, mainly driven by the increasing demand for high-speed Internet access while on the move. LTE is also seen as a way of providing Internet access where fixed line broadband performs poorly, for example in rural areas.

According to the GSM Association (GSMA) there are one million LTE users already and 300 million are expected by 2015.

PTT has just released an updated version of its course MOF: “LTE (4G) mobile radio networks”. This course introduces the benefits and underlying technologies of LTE radio access networks and the Evolved Packet Core (EPC).

A new companion course which provides in-depth coverage of LTE system operation is now also available. This online course MOG: “LTE mobile systems” includes topics such as the provision of differentiated services, roaming between LTE and 2G/3G networks, and providing voice services over LTE. This new course also introduces the benefits and operation of the next generation of mobile service: LTE Advanced.

Diploma in next generation networks

May 20th, 2011

Public telecommunications operators are having to adapt to the changes in the way we communicate, and the range of services we expect to be available even when on the move. To meet this challenge, many operators are investing in the next generation of networks that can meet their customers expectations now and in the future.

PTT offers cost-effective training solutions that allow those responsible for implementing and maintaining these next generation networks to fully appreciate the underlying technologies and the potential for the introduction of new innovative services.

PTT has just released a new “Voice over IP systems” course that covers the provision of IMS-based telephone services over NGNs.

This new course is available to licence on its own or as part of PTT’s new Diploma in next generation networks study programme. This Diploma programme covers all aspects of next generation networks – from underlying principles to the structure of, and services provided by, IMS-based systems – to ensure you are fully conversant with the technologies that are shaping the future of telecoms.
