Interior IP routing

Target audience:

This "Interior IP routing" course is designed for those who are, or intend to be, involved in the planning, installation, or maintenance of Internet Protocol (IP) networks.

 

Course prerequisites:

You will get the most out of this course if you already have a basic understanding of the basic principles and operation of networks based on the Internet Protocol (IP).

It is recommended that the PTT e-learning course "IP networks" is studied before attempting this "Interior IP Routing" course.

 

Course objectives:
By the end of this course you will be able to:

• describe the role of routing tables.
• describe the use, and operation of the distance vector routing protocol, RIP.
• explain how routing loops can be produced and the associated drawbacks.
• describe the various methods of avoiding routing loops including split horizon and poison reverse.
• explain the concept of an autonomous system.
• describe the use and operation of the link state routing protocol, OSPF.
• compare the facilities and benefits of OSPF with those of RIP.
• describe the hierarchical routing and traffic engineering facilities offered by the link state routing protocol, OSPF.
• describe the operation and facilities of the EIGRP routing protocol.
• explain how EIGRP discovers feasible alternative paths in case of network faults.
• compare the facilities of EIGRP with those of OSPF including fault recovery.
